BCI Hybrid

BCI has entered the hybrid bus market.
Following extensive research, BCI Australia has invested with Eaton, USA, to offer a superior hybrid system.

Why Eaton?
BCI chose the world-leading Eaton system because it is simple, reliable and cost effective. It offers real fuel savings of between 20 to 37%.
Eaton Hybrid is proven technology already running in many countries throughout the world, with existing customers re ordering more systems after trials.

BCI Hybrid System Wins

• Acquisition Cost
Before BCI Hybrid technology, only government or large fleet operators could afford this technology.
BCI can deliver a low-floor, stainless steel body and chassis with international brand running gear, for less than the cost of a standard low-floor, city bus body using an imported chassis.
Start saving from day one of ownership with BCI Hybrid system.

• Handling
Before BCI Hybrid technology, heavy battery packs or large cylinders had to be mounted on the roof, which affected the handling ability of the bus.
Now, the BCI Hybrid system is fully contained within the bodywork and all components are below the floor line.

• Weight vs passenger payload
Before BCI Hybrid technology, the additional weight of hybrid systems meant less passenger payload.
BCI was already the lightest, with full size heavy-duty running gear. Now we've saved an extra 400kg off our low-floor with the development of a stainless steel chassis and body.
There is a net weight saving of around 20Kg as the weight of the BCI Hybrid components is offset by the smaller 6-cylinder engine and transmission.
There is no loss of passenger load with the BCI Hybrid system, (up to 80 passengers depending on other options).

• Fuel saving
BCI Hybrid technology with lighter weight means greater fuel savings.
A test of Cummins-powered Eaton Hybrid running the China standard, city cycle (12m bus loaded to 17.8 tons) uses 28.3 L/100Km.

Example: Based on typical figures of an Australian operator.
Other European brand chassis running in Australia on inner city running typically uses 41-48 L/100Km (average 42).
BCI Cummins/Eaton @ 29L/100Km vs other @ 42L/100Km equal 13L/100Km saving, (30% saving).
Driving 250Km per day, a 32.5 L saving per day per bus, assuming diesel is $1.80/L, operates for 347 days (95% availability).
• Total fuel saving per bus per year is $20,300.00.
• A fleet of 50 buses saves over $1,000,000.00

• Infrastructure and running costs
Before BCI Hybrid technology, you needed large capital expenditure to maintain and service this type of vehicle.
BCI Hybrid requires no additional infrastructure and minimal additional maintenance beyond standard scheduled servicing.

• Reliability
Before BCI Hybrid technology, other systems were complicated and often unreliable, resulting in a lot of bus downtime.
Because the BCI Hybrid system incorporates a traditional drive system, it's possible to operate the vehicle on this system alone.

• Performance
The combined power and torque of the BCI Hybrid Cummins engine and electric motor is 320Hp and 1280Nm torque.
There is no loss of performance with the BCI Hybrid system.

• Lower Emissions
A 30% fuel saving is a 30% reduction in harmful emissions. There is less CO2, less NOx, and less particulates. BCI offers a choice of ADR 80/02 or ADR80/03 low-emission engines for this system.
Using BCI Hybrid, with reduced emissions, you are providing an environmental benefit for everyone.

• Summary
BCI now delivers to all bus operators with big or small fleets, affordable, lightweight, low-emission Hybrid technology.
For what you are spending today you can have:

- No loss of passenger load (29% more than CNG bus)
- No sacrifice of performance
- Fuel savings of 30% from day one without any additional cost
- Stable vehicle handling
- Reliable hybrid system.
- Environmental added value
