The BCI Story

BCI, an Australian owned and operated bus and coach company, is today one of the most recognisable and highly purchased bus brands in Australia. The company was established in 1991, and although now at the forefront of the bus and coach industry in Australia, the story of the BCI brand has humble beginnings.

When its founder and present chairman Ron Nazzari established BCI in 1991, the business was a small family-run operation in Perth. Today, BCI’s head office is still located in Perth, Western Australia, with dealership representation in each state and territory along with New Zealand. BCI buses have also been supplied to the American, Canadian and Asian markets.  While BCI is one of the largest bus and coach companies in Australia, it still firmly maintains a family focused approach to business.

Today, the assembly line is based in Nanchang, China, and most BCI vehicles boast around 65% Australian content*.

Over the past two decades, BCI has been responding effectively to the requirements of clients, supplying one bus or a whole fleet of vehicles customised to their individual needs.  Extensive ongoing consultation with bus and coach operators across Australia and within our company guarantees that our vehicles will always be at the forefront of the industry in terms of innovation and responsiveness to changing needs.

In response to the challenge of global warming that has increased public awareness of environmental issues, BCI has been leading the public transport industry in Australia, recently launching Australia’s first commercially sold & operational hybrid bus. BCI created innovative diesel and electric hybrid vehicles, such as the BCI 6120 Diesel Electric Hybrid Bus, to work towards reducing carbon emissions. BCI is also at the forefront in minimising its own carbon footprint by signing up to become a member in the greenhouse challenge and by building its new Perth premises to stringent environmental standards.

The company's environmentally-friendly diesel and electric buses are inexpensive compared to other manufacturers and do not require large capital expenditure to maintain and service. The combination of cost-effectiveness and environmental-friendliness is reflective of the BCI slogan ‘building a world of difference'.

BCI's innovative work in the development of galvanised steel, stainless steel and aluminium bus bodies is further evidence of its leading role in the industry. All buses are built to government statutory requirements and all in-house manufacturing and design is based on ISO 9001 standards. This ensures the conformity of all production and most importantly a superior standard of quality and performance. The BCI engineering team work to exceed Australian Design Rules (ADR) and European standards.

In addition to its high quality standards, BCI is customer focused, with management, sales and engineering staff developing and maintaining personal contact with each client, building a cooperative partnership to produce the best results. This team-based partnership ensures that the product meets all customers' expectations in terms of design, quality and delivery deadlines.

BCI builds a range of models for schools, mining companies, route vehicles, charter vehicles, wheelchair accessible vehicles and motor homes for the transport industry, with a strong focus on ergonomic vehicles to improve disabled passenger accessibility.

BCI – an international business born from an Australian heritage!
